For about the past 3 weeks my car has been running high. It used to run at about 2250rpms for 65-70mph. Now its running at 2750rpms for 65mph. I did find one potential reason. I had too much oil in the car. About 1000 miles ago i did an oil change and put in 5 qts instead of the required 4.25 qts. I drained some out to solve that problem. My service engine soon light has also been on for about 3000 miles and i have no intention of paying to have it checked out. I went to autozone and they said they only check "check engine lights." Any suggestions?

I'm assuming your high idle has something to do with the CEL being on. The very first step to figuring out the problem is to find out what code the computer is showing, which would also be the first thing a shop would do. Take it back to Autozone and have them put their scanner on it to see what code(s) the computer is showing, which would be the reason your CEL is on. After you find out the code(s) repost here with them, or do a search yourself online to see what the code means, and in some cases Autozone can even tell you what the codes mean. That will help anyone determine the problem. Also be sure all your vacumn lines are hooked up and have no cracks, as a vacumn leak couse easily cause your CEL to come on and can also cause problems with your idle speed. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I found out what the problems was. I had wayyyy too much oil in my car. I had 5 qts in, when the owners manual says 4.25 qts. I drained some of the extra oil out and now the dipstick reads slightly below the High mark. My rpms have come back to normal now. My service engine soon light also went off after i tightened the gas cap. No more problems at the moment.
