I just bought a 95 Riviera :grinno:, it has 130000 miles on it. I was just wondering about any maintenance things i should do when i get it? I am going to change the oil and spark plugs. Anything else i should do?

I bought a 95 Riv with 130K in August. Besides replacing ALL of the spark plugs, wires, and oil, check your tranny fluid and consider having it changed if it doesn't look clean. Also check your air filter.

If you read the third post down at this link: http://www.regalgs.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29102 you will also see that I cleaned my MAF sensor and it made a huge difference.

Greasing the ball joints in the front and rear end of these vehicles is often overlooked, and should be done regularly.

Most importantly, if your car is supercharged, check the level of the supercharger oil. If it is dirty and hasn't been changed in the life of the vehicle, you need to remove the old oil and replace it with two bottles of GM supercharger oil.

Enjoy!

I bought mine for $2000, but since then I've had practically everything go wrong with it, to the tune of $1499.21 as of today (minus gas and oil). Major things that went wrong with this car were the transmission, radiator, windshield washer pump, door lock solenoid pack, wastegate solenoid, and a bad brake switch retainer clip which wouldn't let the car shift into overdrive. Mind you that this price is with doing all maintenance myself (except the actual rebuilding of the transmission), which saved who knows how much.

So basically I have $3500 into the car now, and still need new tires, rear shocks, and an alignment for the chassis, and some paint work. After that, I think this car will be in good shape. If you read my other post, you will see that I have a weak fuel pump to replace down the road also.

Lesson of the day? These cars can be expensive to maintain if they haven't been well cared for. My car appeared to be in great shape for the first week after I bought it, but I soon found out otherwise. If your car starts to exhibit any problems, get it down the road ASAP, or you will regret it. Buy yourself the factory service manuals on eBay if you are handy, and you will save yourself plenty of headaches. Yet there are people on this forum who have never had to replace more than plugs and wires and get along fine. It all boils down to maintenance.
