Acceleration Boost!!!!!!!!!!!!Bannon7414 02-21-2006, 07:10 PM I was wondering what were some easy ways to boost my 94 350 5.7L caprices acceleration? I'm not an expert mechanic so I am looking for ways that a novice mechanic can do. HLandin 02-21-2006, 07:14 PM A good one would probably be change the gearing in the rear end. The LT1 Caprice featured a 3.08 rear end ratio while the older L05 used a 3.42 ratio. The higher the ratio, the greater the torque multiplication at the rear wheels. Going with a 3.42 or 3.73 ratio should help accelaration but reduces top speed and fuel economy. silicon212 02-21-2006, 10:37 PM A good one would probably be change the gearing in the rear end. My car has a 3.08 in it but it's soon getting a 3.42 because I want to broil the tires off of the thing! The Positraction is nice but it's not letting me get a decent burnout. The right tire starts to spin, but the car hits speed before I can get a good burn out of it. A lower gear will help me break 'em both loose! Now, getting serious for a minute, the 3.42 will lower the economy (it's getting an uncharacteristic 24MPG on the highway with the 5.7 and the 3.08) it will offer neck-snapping torque on acceleration from a dead stop. Not as brutally as the 3.73, either on the neck or the wallet. BubbleBrad 02-21-2006, 11:21 PM Will the 3.42 fit a '92 9c1? silicon212 02-21-2006, 11:23 PM Will the 3.42 fit a '92 9c1? Yes, the 3.42 will bolt right up. CD Smalley 02-22-2006, 06:00 AM Actually a 92 probably already has 3.42s... 1986Z28 02-22-2006, 04:31 PM hell on my camaro that im building, im running a 5.13 gear, now that neck snapping, but i wouldnt try to do the gear swap yourself, its not easy, and its better left to the professionals broughy84 02-22-2006, 08:28 PM not to be nosey, okay so I'm being nosy, WHY do you need that low of gearing???? IN A CAMARO?? silicon212 02-22-2006, 10:24 PM Because he wants the rear end to rip out of it and beat the front bumper to the line? 1986Z28 02-23-2006, 02:00 PM not to be nosey, okay so I'm being nosy, WHY do you need that low of gearing???? IN A CAMARO?? drag car 1986Z28 02-23-2006, 02:00 PM Because he wants the rear end to rip out of it and beat the front bumper to the line? that also works for me, worlds fastest 12 bolt.. lol broughy84 02-23-2006, 07:58 PM okay, makes since now. BubbleBrad 02-23-2006, 11:11 PM Actually a 92 probably already has 3.42s... Nope, I have a 2.56:banghead: CD Smalley 02-24-2006, 05:53 AM Are you sure? All 9C1s with an L05 should have 3.42s from the factory. silicon212 02-24-2006, 10:24 AM Not all - Mine has a 3.08. The ratios changed, also, to 3.08 beginning in 1991 for the 5.7 - the 3.42 was no longer offered as an option. CD Smalley 02-24-2006, 01:20 PM BZZZZttt. Sorry. Wrong answer. ;) Your car is an LM1 silicon212, not an L05. I said all 9C1s with an L05.... Suggest you read the technical specificationsat 9c1.com . 2.56s were standard with L03s, 3.08s were an option. Only 3.42s were offered with an L05 from 89-93. So either BubbleBrad's car is NOT an L05, NOT a 9C1 or he is incorrect about which gear ratio he currently has installed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
