How to flush the radiator, 99 Grand Am Zack614 02-20-2006, 09:06 AM
My son has a 1999 Grand Am,2.4 Lit. He brought it to Jiffy Lube to have the radiator flushed, but they couldn't get one of the hoses off to do it. I wasshocked to hear they want 80 dollars to do it. I've always done my own with a kit you can purchase for a few bucks. You just cut the heater hose and install the adapter. I'm not sure if this will work on his because he doesn't have a radiator cap for the old fluid to get out of the system. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. All of my pre 90s cars hav them installed. The best way I hav found is remove the thermostat, its on the bottom of the engine on 2.4s, and drain all the coolant you can. To drain the rad. thiers a white plastic wing or a place to insert a 3/8 ratchet, they usually are stuck and can break, If this is stuck try removing the larger hoses and spray into them and flush/push everything(coolant) out. It drains to the side. Fill up the resivour and run for a few(wouldnt hurt to use Rdiator flush/cleaner at this time)minutes. Just repeat rinse 4-5 times if you use some sort of cleaner, and you should be ready to rock-&-roll! Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
