I have a 1995 Saturn SL2 that barely starts, I dont know much about cars so i'll try to explain whats happening.

About 2 weeks ago I went to start my car and it would take about 5-10 seconds of turning the key until it finally turned over and started. I thaught maybe it could of been a battery issue because when this happened the clock and radio station would reset. I continued using my car when I HAD to and then yesterday it wouldn't start at all it would just make some noise when trying to start it ( like a weak starting sound with some bad sounds:rolleyes: ) but then it would never turn over. I figure I'd try jump starting it to see if it was the battery. It didnt work at all. Then one of my friends suggested giving it gas (without jumping it) while i tryed starting it and that worked. So if I give it gas i can get it to start now. Also if my car doesnt sit for a long time (like over an hour) after I turn it off the car will start immedietly when I start it again withuot giving it gas or the delay. What are your oppions on what the problem/s could be and how much dose it cost to replace.

Other Notes: *sometimes when it starts my ABS light comse on but not all the time this is probably a different problem all together im guessing)
*when I open the hood it looks like the engine is shaking more than it should
* the belt that is visible makes some noise
* I noticed that when I shift the car from Drive into Nuetral that you can actually hear it swithcing ( it seems like its to loud as if there mgiht be a problem)
* In general the car runs fine once it starts

thanks for any help
I apologize for any confusion/vauge i really know nothing about cars.

The fuel problem sounds like a fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pump must work but I've heard are a problem. You may also want to check for a new fuel filter if it hasn't been changed. If the car hasn't been checked or serviced lately you might want to have it done. Test the battery to be sure, the belts probably need changed, and check all the fluids to make sure everything is clean and doesn't need changed.

ok, my guess is maybe your belt tensioner is bad. the squeak is kind of a give away to me with the fact that the battery seems to be dying off with the abs light coming on. i mean you could have multiple issues, but id check with the belt tensioner first because all of those items can relate back to the belt tensioner, alternator, and/or battery.

now as of the excessive shaking, the top anchor mount (upper engine mount on passenger side) is probably bad. they tear over time.

Bad spark plug wires can do weird things to an engine. Check the wires on the coil pack end. Corrosion likes to get in there and mess stuff up.
