I have a 1997 Dodge Neon (~106,300 miles on it). My mom also has a 2002 Dodge Neon (~34,000 miles on it). Thye both knock like a bitch. Also my mom's Neon actually knocks a bit louder and it's 5 years new and has about under a 1/3 of the miles m car has. Her car was under warranty and they stripped down the engine and couldn't find anything wrong with it. The dealer said the Neon's have a "normal engine knock." The thing is I thought there were no such thing as a normal engine knock. Also my parent's were going to buy another car and they test drove some other Neons yet those Neons also knocked.

My question is where the heck is this knocking coming from and how can I fix it? Thanks for the help.

i have an srt with 78,000miles on it with no knock. my girl has a neon with 30,000 on it and no knock. one of my mechanics at my shop has a neon with 30,000 on it and it knocks like a SOB!!!!! its piston slap, and one of those issues that some cars have. its not healthy, but dodge's customer service sucks so bad they dont back their product. its not a healty sound

lol dumb thing but it may just be the evap solinoid that you will hear and it sounds like a tapping noise.
