We recently bought a 99 grand am 2 door with a 4 cyl engine.
The problems i am expericing are : 1) the trac off light and ABS light have been on since we bought the car 2) the coolent light came on probably 3 days after we bought it. checked coolent and is full. still on. 3) Just today the ABS light and BRAKE light came on together. not the trac off light though. that was the first time for that. And last but not least, we have been having some cool weather so when i go out to start my car and let it warm up, the heater doesnt blow very warm air. It seems to get warmer (hot) when I drive the car but the minute I take my foot off the gas, it gets cold again. hmmm. that started about 3 days ago. And the temp is normal.
I am going to have the car put on a diagonstic checker tomorrow. maybe that will help. Do you think this might be a wiring problem????
thanks for any help!!!!!!

As far as the ABS light and brake light, I'm not sure there, but I have heard that if you have a bad wheel bearing, the Trac off light will come on. As far as your coolant light and not getting warm air, I would guess that you need a thermostat. I've never changed one in my GA (I have a 99 V6), but they usually aren't too bad to do. Or you could have a plugged heater core.

Have an experienced mechanic flush the heater core, I had to do this on my 95 as it was severely clogged due to someone mixing green and pink coolant. As for the coolant light, its probably the switch in the coolant resivoir, the only way to change the switch is to replace the entire tank, I found one in a wreck when I changed mine. The abs and brake lights could be a bunch of problems. Bad wheel sensor, bad bearing, broken wire etc. I'm assuming brakes are working normal except for this problem? I had a problem with my abs a few years ago, the pedal suddenly went to the floor, no brakes. Pumped the hell out of them, stopped at the end of my driveway (I got lucky), parked it and shut it down. Brakes worked fine with the car off, unplugged both connectors to the abs modulator, started the car, shut it off, plugged the front connector back in, started the car, shut it off after the brakes cycled. Plugged the other connector back in, started the car, no problems at all. Had it checked, no codes or anything. Hope this helps.
