Another SC2 crank but no start problem.

I've been out of the country for the last 6 weeks and had my 2000 Saturn SC2 (~96,000 miles) parked in the garage while I was gone. I get back to find that my battery is dead (surprise). We try jumping it, but no luck.

Since it's the original battery, I went ahead and just bought a new battery. Popped it in and had lights, radio, dashboard light up. However the car would crank, but now it still won't start. I'm also having a problem similar to this post ( http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t320329.html ), where my fuel gauge reads empty and I know I had gas in it when I left. I even put 3 more gallons in the tank this weekend thinking, "well maybe *it is* empty" and still had no change on the gas gauge.

Any ideas, suggestions or questions?

A few things I've been told to look at:
1 - Sparkplugs (though a few people say this most likely isn't the issue, since the plugs are fairly new).
2 - Fuel pump or fuel filter?
3 - Blown fuse (I'll check this when I get home from work)
4 - Starter solenoid

yes check for fuses. now with 3 gallons in it, that should be enough to bring the needle to about a hair over the empty line or a bit higher, when the tank was completely empty. now you could have a bad crank sensor, fuel pump, coils, a number of things.

check for spark, check for injector pulse. do those 2 things then come back with info.

Sounds good.

Fuses are all good by the way.
