i was just given an sl1 SOHC. could anyone tell me any specs at all for this model. what about any recalls or common problms i should know of? with current gas prices im not too concerned with performance versus milage and dependability. im still a lil curious of what lil power this car has and what possibilities to build it up. preferably somethin cheap. lol. thanx in advance

No, theres not much you can do to the single cam engine. The double cam engine gets all the love. Just enjoy the gas savings. You should get 35MPG highway if everything is working properly.

no reason to modify the tbi motors. they are what they are, weak. gas mileage should be good, but of course all s-series get good gas mileage. my car gets better gas mileage then most all saturns.

97 SL2. nothing extremely special about it. its opened up so it can breathe and exhale easily and everything is managed really well. i can easily see 38mpg driving it hard. if i drive city the entire tank its 35mpg. i take great care of it.

but its under the wrench right now. i pulled the trans out to weld the diff and do some other things while im at it.
