Grandpa gave car to me

Car sat for about 1 year (run occasionally)

Car will crank but wont start without starter fluid in the air intake

When car starts (finally) it runs real rough, engine shakes and there is some knocking and backfires

The other day the throttle body backfires blowing the air filter housing in two and starting the air filter to flaming :screwy:

engine will just about start on starter fluid in air intake and when gas is pressed that kills the deal fast

circuit tester shines bright on all connections accept the plug to the IAC which show real dim

Spark plugs look brand new in place(i did not take them out to look) wires look good also but have not tested for spark.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Check fuel pressure, get fresh gas, basic diagnostics here.

I agree with Max, sounds like basic fuel system issues from sitting.
