Actually I have heard just the opposite. The SOHC heads are prone to cracking.

exactly. dohc engines will last forever. pretty much. sohc are proned for heads cracking, and ocassional head gasket. and in some sohc, the intake gasket likes to leak casuing a misfire and loss in vacuum.

91-92 dohcs are going to be the worst to find. from there dohcs last pretty much forever. the only time dohcs have issues is if someone abuses it.

i know more then enough guys running their dohcs 250k+ and run like new. there is even a guy in my area, from last year, had over 700k on his dohc with no internal work at all. sohc engines are the problem ones, not all but most.

Saturn have interference type motors. When cam chains go so does the valve train. That is what usually does in a DOHC head.

ah any motor that breaks its belt/chain can cause damage. but since the engine does have a chain, it can last longer and be better at taking abuse. stupid belts stretch too much and shred teeth off.
