Window guides on a P11

just wondering if anyone had come across this problem before, my cars a '97 model P11 and i was getting a rattling noise coming from the doors when the stereo was on and when driving though a certain rev range.

I decided to have a look and found the guide that supports the window on the outer edge of the door rusted and snapped in the bend before it gets bolted to the door, this was the same on both doors.

Now is this a common fault or am i going to kick up a stink at nissan for supplying defective goods, there isn't a single spot of rust anywhere else on the car.... from the internals to the screw that holds the aerial on the roof!.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated

I never seen or heard of that one before, best have a chat
with those fellas at Maple Cross (tel 01923 899999)
I'm assuming that the cars had no bodywork before ?, if not
giv'em a buzz

what do you mean by had no bodywork before? if you are referring to new bits.... all that has been changed on the drivers door are the hinges as the door was sagging on the worn pins, and that was done at my local nissan dealership where everything ive had done to the car gets done.
The passenger door is in the original state it came out the factory in Sunderland all i have changed is the speakers but this can be done without removing the plastic seal that covers the door so it should still be pretty much moisture/water resistant.

who are the guys at Maple Cross?

oh and thanks for the reply!

had to replace my drivers-side seal. The bottom of the seal rusted though around the mounting bracket. (98P11GT).

I also get clunking from the electric windows when they are wound right up. Haven't check this yet, but it can't be the seal as it's brand new.

was it difficult to replace?..... Ive had a look and to me it seems like you have to remove the glass from the door and then undo the bottom screw but from there i cant see how the guide comes away...... How much did it cost to replace?

thanks for your help

Bit of a bitch to replace...

The seal is actually fitted quite simply to the door: Two (if my memory serves correctly) screws on brackets at each end of the trim, then the trim itself is press-fitted into the door. It's a case of winding the window up and down, trying to get the seal in the right place.

The real problem comes with the seal being made from some very flimsy metal under the rubber. If it's not positioned correctly, it'll bend outwards. If you bend it whilst fitting, it won't go back in shape correctly. Took me about an hour to fit the new seal, then another 40minutes to get it positioned correctly. Got a very slight bend in it, but it's stilll far better than the previous seal.

As for how much, to be honest, I don't know. I obtained the seal from the garage I bought the car from (it was supposed to be done when I bought the car, but they forgot and couldn't spare the time to fit for another month).

hope this helps. Oh, the other thing to watch is the button panel on the door - the catches will snap on removal given the chance. (P11)

Nissan Uk is in Maple Cross, Herts.
If you've got a reasonable dealer history (which shows commitment to the brand) then you've got a fair chance at a bit of good will.
Get your local dealer to quote you & then ask him to put a warranty
query in.

just about every week im in the garage getting something fixed or fitted and paying top whack for it..... only two days ago i spent £260 getting a new gator and boot fitted to the nearside outer driveshaft after the old boot split and all the grease dissapeared thanks to the great british weather on a drive back home to Scotland (rain followed by...... you guessed it..... more rain!!), then the wipers stopped working because the cups that the spindles sit in had worn away too, due to weather again!!, still cant really complain as the car has now done..... wait for it...... 135,000 miles and is still pulling like a shire horse, suppose that must be down to the dealer service i pay for every 9,000 miles! I'm gonna stop now cos im starting to feel down about the amount of money ive given them, still.... thats the joys of motoring!!..... next job....... clutch replacement..... but i think i'll look somewhere else for that.... i wont even tell you the quote Nissan gave me to replace that... and then they told me i had to add V.A.T to the price too!! ££££££
