The turn signal is constantly blinking even while the engine is turned off. The mechanic can't find the trouble. The trouble started with a burnt-out headlight (driver side). Anyone have a suggestion?

I have the same problem with my 1992 525i Sportwagon. After breaking my head for a while trying to figure out what a hell was going on, a few sprays on the signal light swith with WD-40 did the job. After years of use dirt can drive you crazy.

Thanks for your advise, but the mechanic laughed when I told him you said to spray the switch with WD40! He said the switch is in the car. Is there another switch you were talking about? I'm desperate. My car's been in the shop almost three weeks now.

If your mechanic check your wiring for shorts and everything is O.K., then the problem is on your signal light swith, sure the switch is in the car and you used constantly to turn on your signal light. After years of use dirt will case a ground on it activating the signal lights. If your car have been in the shop for three weeks is time to move foward and look for another shop. I have been working on BMW for more than 15 years when I got my first one, and been working on all kind of cars for more than 35 years.
