1989 e150 Transmission wont go up??

Ive got an 89 e150 5.0ltr and the tranny wont upshift out of 2nd to 3rd or overdrive, is it time for a rebuild and if so, how much am i looking at?? Thanks, Tabby

I never came across this problem with my 89 Econ-Box, But did run into something like this in my old geo! hahaha... But If I were you do the basics if you didn't do that already.. Meaning check the tran-fluid and see if that is good. Also check your Engine Oil while your at it.. When was the last tune up on it? It could be mis-firing.. I doubt it though.. If they needed to be changed that could be your problem and invest your money in some Lucas Oil. That stuff is like honey it coats like no other... My shop teacher doesn't believe in it but I felt a difference in a hard shifting. Plus If all else fail take it to your local shop and have them look at it. It might be the transmission seals themselves, Hope to god that it isn't that cuz your going have to get it rebuilt or by a new/after market tranny.

Please post back your progress. I have the EXACT problem with a 1987. Except, for a short period, it wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd.
