Driving home today my 99 LX starts ticking very badly.I notice my oil light is on so I pull into an oil change business.
They check all fluids and for leaks and tell me everything is fine.Oil light has turned off and the loud ticking is no more.Confused, I drive off home bound.
About 2 miles down the way it starts again.I see the oil light flicker to light up and then finally glow bright red.Again I hear the ticking as well.

I have no idea what this is and why it is happening. No leaks in oil pan or tranny. All fluids are topped off.

I did have my cam sensor replaced as it was broke and make sorta the same sound, but more of a squeek.I dont think this is the cam sensor though this time.
It does seem like I have loss of power as well.

Any ideas of what this can be?
Any info I can give let me know.
I just spent $2,600 on body repairs from rear end collition and hope this money was not wasted.

The oil light comes on when there is low oil pressure. The ticking sound maybe coming from the lifters not getting enough oil because of low oil pressure. What weight oil are you using? What brand oil filter do you have installed on your car?

on the belt gaurd above you radiator thier is some information, check if you are using the correct oil, it will state which oil you should use.

When is the last time you had an oil change?

I dont do it myself as I take it to the 'Valvoline Instant Oil Change'. I believe they use what is recommended.
Last night they checked it and oil was full and in very good condition. The car has been sitting for a few months with the occasional start so things dont sit to long.
When is the last time you had an oil change? Last time was in NOV and car has been pretty much sitting like I said since then.

I dont want to drive it to go get checked out.I may need to get a tow truck. If it is the oil pressure, what is causing that and what is involved in the repairs. Also what would be an estimated cost.
Could driving it the distance I did last night ( about 15miles ) do really bad damage? The ticking was really loud and really got me worried.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT:
I just found paperwork, and they used S10W30B and sticker says to get it changed on the 19th of this month. But as I said, the oil never really got worked nor did I drive 3000 miles on it.

Who did the cam sensor work, and did they replace the syncro assembly or just the sensor? I ask because the syncro is directly linked to the oil pump. As the cam turns your syncro and sends info to the sensor it also turns the oil pump drive shaft. If it was not installed properly it will fuch up you oil pressure to the rest of the engine. The ticking is your lifters or lash adjusters starving for oil.

Ok, here is what it says on paperwork:
LABOR:
REMOVE AND REPLACE CAMSHAFT SENSOR,
REMOVE AND REPLACE CAMSHAFT
SYNITINIZER

PARTS:
CAMSHAFT SENSOR
CAMSHAFT SYNITINIZER

Not sure if that is what it is, that SYNITINIZER thing.

I think it is a miss print on their behalf, it should read syncronizer, You should take it back and tell them to verify their workmanship becuase since the repair you are having oil pressure problems and the part that was replaced is directly linked with the oil pump.

I already called them and told them I would be having it sent there.
They know all the work done so hope they can find out what the deal is.
I really hope it isnt the oil pump.I dont have the money to repair that and know that has to cost a bundle.I can only hope that they see something they did and not charge me.

If they charge you then you should seek legal advice.

Just to get back on this in case someone has this issue....
I took it back to where I get my car worked on, and it turns out I have 3 quarts too much!
Everything was looked at so they did an oil change to see if maybe I had done any damage, and oil kept on pouring out.An estimated 3 quarts more than should be came out. They did not do the oil change and told me to never use the place again, to bring it to them.

Anyway, since a new oil change and correct amount was put in, I have had no problems with oil pressure or that annoying tick.

NO CHARGE either :naughty: for all the time it was there and work done to figure this out.
