Just to show how bad the 4l60e sucks, my $2400 built 4l60e just took a crap on me. Made to hold 600 hp my ass!!!!! It didn't quite make it a year, but oh well.....I knew the basis was a POS anyways. Now on to a better tranny. Probably either a TH400 or a 4l80e. TH400 has the price advantage, 4l80e has the overall internal bulk advantage. Both would suit my racing needs, but the damn 4l80e zaps so much hp. The TH400 is so short geared and no overdrive(as if I give a fudge :grinno: ) We'll see which way to go when I decide to get to work on it.

Just another post on the crap gm puts behind their motors. Looks like the TCI converter might have come to pieces causing the tranny to fudge up. Either way they both SUCK!!!! Oh, well, better here than at the racetrack.

lol, sorry but that is amusing the way you posted it. But a forced upgrade is always a good thing if you can afford it. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to go with.

Dont get the 80E, you'll be having the same problem in one year, go with the TH400.

Yeah I would say the TH400 as well.

4l80 is gonna have the same problems as the 60
so i say go with the 400

Well the 80E is pretty much a 700R4 with updated electronics and a TCM, but you can find some level 3 tranny's for like $2999 completely rebuilt with the electronics removed for full manual shifting, but your better off going with the TH400, save you time and money. Plus there's still lots of parts available for it and plenty of shops who rebuild those pretty cheap.

Wrong. The only thing the 4l80e and the 700r4 have in common is that they are electronically shifted as appossed to being controled hydraulicaly. The similarities pretty much end there. The 4l80e was designed for extreme heavy duty use with very high torque powerplants. It's an even stronger tranny than the th400.
Look at Parish's truck. He's running a 6.0 l iron block on twin turbos w/ n2o. He's in the low 10's or so and he runs a built 4l80e just fine.

Get the 4l80e, why bother with the 3 spd when you can get a stronger tranny that has an overdrive?

The 700R4 in my old '86 K5 Blazer wasn't electronically shifted, it was all extra vacuumed out. Hell... the most sophisticated part in that truck was the TBI 350.

Jim(Parish) has had great success out of his flp 4l80e. He is running the 408 with one big turbo and a 100 shot. Made 1000 hp on it and ran a 10.08, but now he's going to have to find a rear end that will stay under it(Ford 9" here he comes. :grinyes: ). The flp 4l80e is just so damn high, not to mention the $900 converter I'm also going to have to buy.

Decisions.....decisions.....

i dont know shit about Automatic transmissions (or transmissions in general) but the 4l80 sounds like the better deal.

i get so tired of muscle guys and their TH-400's...they are like "your car doesnt even have the pwoer equal to the power lost in my TH-400.. blah blah blah blah torque torque blah blah torque torque torque"

sometimes i wanna puke :puke: :comprage1

it's cause your car doesn't make the power that my TH400 loses.

Oh... yeah... sorry.... forgot.

Haha...the th400 is an awesome tranny, hell I've got one built up for my Camaro. But I'd gladly use the 4l80e if I had a way of controlling the thing.

As far as Parish going to a Ford 9'' rearend, that's a great idea. I also did that with my Camaro. Why spend twice as much money doing up a chevy 12 bolt when it still won't hold up like the Ford rearend?

That isnt nessicarily something to be proud of...since i dont drive a car and i make over 150bhp. :icon16:

if it losses 30 % they would have to be making 500bhp.

oh...yeah...

hehe, lucky I don't have a TH400... but a T56 that loses about 15%. :)

No he's right, i got them mixed up, the TH400 is a 4L80 and the 700R4 is the 4L60.

700R4 is the same thing as a 4L60E, they just use a new name, plus it is electronically controlled (the meaning of the E in the name). 4L80E is the TH400 with an overdrive gear on it and electronic. You can think of the 700R4 (or 4L60E) as a TH350 with an overdrive gear.

Also 4L80's and 4L80E's have a GVW rating of 15,000 lbs or more depending on clutch packs used.

Ha ha ha.....When I got into the truck yesterday after the violent slam pulling into my workplace, I put it in R and nothing happens. :( I go down to D and it starts to move, so I'm happy as hell I can now at least get home.
I put it in N and push it out of the parking space(funny as hell flintstoning that damn thing). On the way home it goes from 1st to 3rd with no converter lockup. Truck is a little loud going down the road about 40-50mph at 2600-3000rpms with the cutouts open. :bang:

I felt like dude on Days of Thunder......"Just give me the high gear!!!!!!!"

Well, I caught a break. TeamTripp thinks very highly of their builds and is going to replace the internals, as well as update a few things he now uses since my build, for shipping costs(around $200). I'm going to get the tranny yanked hopefully this weekend and get it shipped off. I wasn't too fond of going with another 60e, but due to the low build cost and the ease of installation....I figure what the hell. His guess on what failed in the tranny is the "beast" sunshell.
Since the tranny will be out, I'm upgrading to the fuddle 3200 stall. It flashes 4000 behind a sprayed 6.0L!!!! Should be a fun ass launch! :grinyes:

My buddy also picked up an older model drag truck the other day and is parting it out. If the measurements are what we're looking for, I'm going to be taking the 4 link coilover setup off his hands. :naughty: Maybe I can get my 1.7 or less 60ft times back.

we used to do that in our old caravan that didnt have enough power to go 60mph up hills... saves a lot of gas lol

i draft 18 wheelers, 1-2 car lenghts is about the breathing room i give it and i kinda move to the one side of the lane ver neow and then so he can see im still back there in the mirrors. Trucker used to live by my grandparents said most truckers dont car if you keep a comfertable distance behind them and let them know you're back there every now and then. However that 18 wheeler isnt going to stop as fast as i can so i dont have to worry about rearending anyone....lol.

When im going down the interstate withno semi's to draft i try to find a group of cars that lieks to draft off of each other, every now and then one will pull into the right hand lane and slow untill the rest pass and hit the back of the line...lol...like freaking ducks...i see it alot in FL if im on the interstate in the middle of the say in the middle of hte week (see a line of 5 cars going down i-75 with the rest of the lans empty)...rest of the time its like racing in the Daytona 400...everyone crams into the left hand lane and does 85 then slows to 65 when they see a cop

:disappoin

i dont think jeff gordon would do that. im not a gordon fan either...

im pretty sure toyota wont actually be in it this year, its 07. and besides, being toyotas almost doesnt matter at all, its really about what teams they get. if they wanna win it, they need to get a major team over there. they might to be able to win without doing that, but their chances would be much much less.

but anyway, wtf is with all the hate.
