Ordered Engine UpgradesChiaX 06-21-2002, 11:45 PM I ordered some new engine upgrades to play with. I am putting a K&N intake, MSD ignition, Magnacore wires and Iridium plugs. I will let you guys knwo how it turns out. Schludwiller 06-23-2002, 09:18 PM ChuckH and RStarr both seem to like their K&N intakes a lot. rrdstarr 06-24-2002, 01:03 AM Brrrrum! I had to go to MT this past week and noticed quite a difference with the K&N Aircharger! I can now pull Snoqulmie Pass(from the West), 4th of July Pass(Idaho) in 5th gear without downshifting! I put the truck on cruise at 73 from Butte, MT all the way to Spokane, WA on one tank of gas! 19.1 gal for 340 miles! 18mpg is an improvement from 16mpg! ChuckH 06-24-2002, 01:10 AM I like mine a lot, but I am having a bit of a problem that may or may not be related to the intake. My truck is running a bit too lean and is pinging...even a little on Super Unleaded when hot. Everything related to fuel, intake, and timing has been checked and it seems there are no problems anywhere else in the line. Dealer says the engine computer is getting the wrong input from the air intake and that I should always run Premium gas with this setup. I will keep you posted, but if you don't mind spending money on diagnostic time, I would be interested to see if your truck runs lean too after installing the AirCharger system. Looks like I may back off my timing just a hair to see if I can stop the pinging and hopefully not lose power. solar 09-10-2002, 12:19 PM Scott, so how did the modifications work out? I have installed a home version of the K&N setup and I love it. My gas millage has also improved. I used to get the deep gurgelling noise when I took it over 2500 RPM but when I re-set the computer (disconnected the battery overnight) I really don't hear it anymore. So how did the wires and ignition upgrades work out. It's kinda though to tell which mod helped out the most seeing that you installed them altogether but overall how is everything. Did you advance the timing once you installed the new wires to get a better ignition arc ?? Curious minds want to Know !! Elroy 09-11-2002, 03:15 PM I think Scott is getting rid of his X. Look here (http://www.xterraownersclub.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=004750) solar 09-11-2002, 03:28 PM Thanks Elroy, I did actually see that posting but I guess I never did put two and two together. I guess I can still find out how the mods went. Alan vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
