97 ford taurus diagnostic questionLDMiller 02-05-2006, 02:19 PM When the diagnostic was first run the cam positioning sensor was bad so I changed that, then the check engine light came on again so I ran another diagnostic at Auto Zone this time and they said its the #2bank catalytic converter...But the car runs fine and dosn't sound like the catalytic is plugged...could it be the O2 sensor? Or something else? Thanks Larry shorod 02-05-2006, 03:42 PM Did AutoZone tell you the exact code number that they read? It should be in the form of "Pxxxx" where P refers to a powertrain code and the "x's" can be any combinations of numbers 0-9. The "x" following the P will be either a 0 or 1. -Rod way2old 02-05-2006, 07:21 PM Diagnosing a code for a converter failure is quite a legnthly process. You need to rule out ignition problems, air intake problems, vacuum problems, fuel problems, exhaust leaks, O2 concerns and finally a problem with the converter. So as shorod states, the accurate code will help a lot in helping you. If it is a P0430, it is bank 2 converter below operating limits. need code and all the test results to diagnose. Throwing O2 sensors at it may cure for a little while, but there is a root problem that has caused the converter to fail and the code will return. Good luck. LDMiller 02-09-2006, 07:20 PM Thanks for your help. I will look into this as I do not remember the exact code. Larry vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
