More power for 95 3.8L

Before anyone yells at me, I tried to search for this info and came up empty handed.

I am looking for more power out of my 95 T-bird. It is a 3.8L automatic. I know exhaust and intake will help, although I really don't want to tackle exhaust since I don't think the gains are worth the money. I was wondering if they make a tuner or programmer for this engine/tranny combo that would allow me to control power with 93 octane, shift points, shift firmness, etc. I feel that would be the best bang for the buck.

ALSO, how do these engines respond to a gear change? I believe they have 3.27 stock rear end ratio. How would it respond to a 3.73 with Limited Slip? I live in the NE of the USA so it snows up here in the winter and I could use all of the traction I could get. I'm not too worried about MPG since I pretty much know more power = less MPG.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Any input anyone? I have tried the search function but I keep coming up empty handed. Any advice would be appreciated, including links to already formed threads. Thanks guys.

I don't think you'd see a worthwhile gain with a chip for your 3.8. Gears would definately help, although I liked the 3.27LS in my 96. Intake and exhaust definately help and are a solid foundation for other mods. I think there are a few cams on the aftermarket and porting and polishing the heads will help as well. It all depends on how much money you want to spend. I think a lot of 3.8 mustang parts will bolt up. A supercharger setup is a healthy boost, but unless you've already replaced the head gaskets you'd better plan on it soon after. If you're not sentimentally attached to the car it may be easier and cheaper to sell it and buy a V8 or a SC.

A cold air intake would be a great place to start. OR often times, you can find a used supercoupe factory supercharger or ebay. I saw one on there this morning. It was only up to 150 some dollars. If you could find one in a bone yard and buy all the stuff to convert yours, that would be your best bet.

all you can do wont yield very much power, infact for how heavy the bird is all that power wont do much...
