okay, so the parts i bought for my car are finally here, now the tearing down of my precious 240 begins. Today, i got the intake, injectors, electrical plugs and upper intake mani off. I still have to remove 2 pulleys (i thiink) and the 2 main manifolds, then i can swap the newly machined head onto my block with no valve tick or leaky head gasket , my friend said i should get a steel head gasket but i donn't know where to source one for not a ton o money... also, i don't wanna seem like a dummy but you guys are gonna be seeing some "where does this go" posts from me probably, cuz i took some pics and did some labelying, but theres just oo many hoses/ bolts to remember all at one time, manual or not... =p. tomorrow morning i'm goin back at it and hope to remove both moanifolds. Then i'll probably put the engine at tdc and start on the drivetrain ( pullin the poor old head ) the new head is going to the machine shop friday when i get paid. Btw, for some reason i cannot see my typing on the screen when i type up a new thread, wtf is going on? i have use the forward and back buttons to make the text show up so i can see what the fucki'm typing.

btw, its gonna turn out to be 75.00 to get a 5-angle valve job on the new head :naughty:. btw, the camshaft that actually came in the mail had some rust on it, most of it wiped off but some is a lil thick, can i get this cam machined to clean that up or is it just f'ed? I can always use the camshaft from my old car so no biggie, but i would still like to save the new camshaft if possible.

if the cam lobes are rusty, cleaning them might only leave a pitted surface, meaning your cam is fucked. sorry to hear that. go to a dealer parts counter and ask them to print out diagrams for your engine bay. i did that when i assembled my engine and it helped a ton. especially the vacuum hose diagram and heater hose diagram. and 75 for a 5 angle job is a deal :) good job on finding that one!
ask away if you have any questions

i would just get a cometic head gasket. I think their like 100 and something dollars. Not that expensive for the benefit it gives. Plus you might as well do it now while the shits taken apart. Good luck. Especially if you have ka-t in mind.

Isn't the Cometic headgasket low compression?

cheap gasket is not a good deal... get OEM or a Greddy low comp. 1 , u don't want that gasket to go out on u in hard driving!

Again, why a low comp? He has a stock KAE! He's just ganna lose power! lol

I say go OEM, it is pretty much the best for ka24. Nissanfanatic runs 16psi on a stock one, so I would trust it to hold everyday driving on a NA as well.

oem gasket it is, i'll pick one up when i get paid this friday. My roomie and i have been working on the car and the only thing thats really keepin me back is the down pipe....i can't get the fukker disconnected at all, but i also can't seem to get the egr pipe disconnected, so i'm stuck....i was just gonna lift the head + manifolds clean out once i disconnected the exhaust, but the bolts are practically welded in now from the crud thats on it. While removing parts, it also seems that the power steering 'unit' (w/ the pulley on it) is leaking, and after some inspection, it seems that it managed to leak all over the front of my engine :banghead: , so last night a few parts managed to find their way inside my dishwasher :icon16: and now they clean as a whistle.

Could i just drill the exhaust bolts out? They're more like screws actually, but they're rusted to hell and socket/screwdriver are no good. Either that or tell me how to get to that egr pipe, i can't budge it from the exhaust side...

btw, is it safe to tear that mat thing off the underside of my hood? or will that cause heat issues with my paint?? mine is already a bit worn and is kinda ugly, still in one piece though :grinyes: .

i dropped off the head yesterday, its gonna be 140 for compression test, resurfacing, and 5 angle valve job, then all i need is a head gasket kit.

I doubt removing it would do anything to your paint, the insualtor is mainly there for acoustical purposes. Some manufactures don't even put them on hoods unless you buy the higher end trim models.
