Anti-theft car horn alarm systemmokya91 01-30-2006, 08:53 AM :banghead: Our (2002 Taurus) factory installed anti-theft horn and light alarm system has started going off at random for no reason. I went on vacation & it started going off during the night & every hour drove us & all guest at the hotel nuts! Another night I parked it out side my window & it would go off - I would stop it (unlock & relock the doors) then maybe 10 minutes later it would start going off. It has gone off in my drive way, in my garage, every where & always at random. I cannot figure out why & what is causing this. Has anyone else had this problem & can it just be disabled? shorod 01-30-2006, 02:19 PM Sounds like you may have a flakey door pin switch at one or more of the doors. I'm not sure if they still use the integrated door pin switch in the 2002 model. In the late '90s anyway, the door pin switch was located inside the door latch mechanism. The switches would fail intermittantly and could definitely lead to the alarm system activating. Basically, in the middle of the night, the alarm system thinks someone is opening a door. There are numerous threads on this forum related to cleaning the switches. I would suggest NOT using WD-40 as it is not intended for electrical connections. Granted, many people have had good luck using it and it is readily available. However, I prefer to use electrical parts cleaner followed by an oxidation inhibitor (I use Caig brand De-Oxit to clean the switch and Caig Presev-It as the inhibitor). The cleaner application can be administered from the open door, you do not need to remove the latch assembly or remove the door panel. If you opt to go this route, you may as well do all four doors. If you have access to a professional scan tool, you should be able to determine which door the GEM module thinks is open. -Rod vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
