Trouble accelerating

I have a '96 JGC that has just under 99,000 miles on it. When I start driving in the morning, the RPMs go really high and it's like something is not catching in the engine or a belt. The acceleration is slow at first so I have to let off the gas and then gets better on its' own.

It started about 1 month ago and happened only on the first left-hand turn I make, but now happens every time I start the engine for the first time or if it's been sitting for a few hours as well.

I know nothing about cars (as you can probably tell) and don't want to get ripped off be mechanics when I take this in to be fixed. Will someone please help me answer this question? :banghead:

I also have the same problem along with my friend, who has a '98 GC. When i start my car in the morning or after it has been sitting, then i go to drive once i hit about 15 mph or so its like it hesitates. If I keep my foot on the gas i hear clunk, clunk then it's fine.

Is that the same thing that is happening to you?

Warm up your jeep, to 210, find a level area and while the engine is running check your trans fluid level.

To do this you need a rag, make sure to watch the fan as you don't what to get caught in it. Then pull the trans dip stick out and wipe it clean with your rag look for the level marks on the end of the dip stick, LOW and ADD should be written, then put it back into the tube and pull it out, check the level and see what you have.

If you run it low or over, the trans will slip.
Also check the color of the trans fluid, if it smells like garlic, and or smells burnt and is more Brown then red you may have a problem.

Also even if you trans fluid looks ok, you may have a clogged filter.

good luck

Thanks. I checked that about a week ago, and it was high. So i think next week im just going to change the tranny filter and fluid out and fill it to the proper level.

Thanks, I will check the fluids and hopefully that will help. I also will be getting a tune-up, so should I wait until then (about 1 week).
