have you checked the battery and the alternator? (you can go to a local shop to have these checked)

My 2000 does the same thing. if you keep your foot on the gas it keeps running and once it's warmed up it's fine. No check engien light or codes. not sure about this one.

is the key programmed right? Chrysler keys for sebrings have computer chips, and if u use a non chrysler key, it does exactly what u described-- it starts up fine, but the moment you put it in gear, it dies

Seriously? Youre actually going to criticize my advice? Yes, I know this problem could be any number of things. My solution is easy to test(just get the key reprogrammed like 60 bucks, relatively inexpensive if im right, I think i am based on the description because it happened to me-like I said in my previous post, my 1999 jxi convertible would start up normally, but the moment you put it in to Drive or Reverse it would shut itself off-IT WAS A FAULTY KEY-COMPUTER CHIP IN THE KEY MALFUNCTIONED). I never once said I was a qualified tech at all. I am just a SEBRING CONVERTIBLE OWNER trying to help. Do you think that you can one hundred percent identify any problem without SEEING the car? We can only do so much on here jackass. I am just trying to help so how dare you say stuff like that. What would people like us do if forums like these didnt exist? Then we would be at the mercy of car repair shops--we are not here to replace repair shops in most cases, but to give people a more informed idea of what their problem may be.

Good advice. Another little problem with the 2001 Sebring - If the car's equipped with the optional trip computer/compass in the center of the dash -- it may cause this problem as well. The 2001 I used to own stranded me 6 times before Chysler figured out what was causing the problem. I believe they issued a service bulletin on this problem.

Yes, cars can have weird solutions. Like I had a friend who had a 2000 Toyota Corolla and it kept starting and dying and you know what it ended up being? the fact that there was something blocking the trunk from closing fully, he literally removed it and got the trunk to shut and it never did it again. Weird I know, makes no sense

Sebring with 2.5 engine,no spark,no codes(just 12 and 55).Replaced dist.,crank sensor, dist cap, rotor button.Checked all fuses and relays.Fuel pump runs for a couple seconds when switch turned on as it should.Fuel getting to injectors.Checked for spark straight out of coil tower and had none.Manual says relay on firewall controls ASD,bench tested all three relays found on firewall checked out ok.Checked wiring for short, and all electrical plugs,I've run out of ideas.
