96 grand voyager speedometer probs

Have 3.3L engine, recently died - could crank, but not start. Mechanic got screwy voltage readings & replaced the PCM, seemed fine. Now for no reason once or twice per day (at highway speeds), car jerks & can see speedometer drop off as much as 30 or 40 mph, and then speedometer goes right back up. Was not using cruise control. Tach seems to stay steady. Is also starting to stall at stoplights occasionally, but will start right back up. Mechanic changed out crankcase position sensor, still having same problems. No codes show up on OBD reader. Mechanic is thinking a sensor on transmission is to blame & is recommending changing it & another one at the same time to avoid future problems, but with no codes can't quarantee will fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

For what it's worth, additional info. Last 3 times it has happened, seems to happen 15 to 20 minutes after starting up car. When it happened this morning, was driving about 70 mph, about 2350 on tach. Didn't notice that any of the electronic displays (odometer, drive selector) go out or even blink. Did have the on/off button on the steering wheel 'on' for the cruise control, but not engaged. Noticed afterward that the 'on' light had shut off. In past I'm pretty sure this light has stayed 'on' even after shutting off the car & then restarting.

Try removing and cleaning the speed sensors located on the front of the transmission. I had a similar problem with mine in the summer, removed the speed sensors whichad small amounts of metal deposits stuck to them. Worked fine since.

If the speed sensor is giving the wrong reading it will make the speedometer abit haywire.

Wanted to get back to say thanks & let know status. Ended up taking it back to the 1st mechanic (at the dealer), described everything & he volunteered to change out the PCM again at no cost. Just got back last night, no prob's driving this morning, will let you know if this fixes it for good. Thanks again.
