chime stays on and lights wont turn offBigRedAurora 01-24-2006, 09:42 PM hello everyone,,came home this evening and noticed my exterior lights would not turn off.i was able to turn the headlights off by the interior switch but taillights and front markers won't turn off unless i disconnect the battery.anyone else experienced this same problem.thanks everyone boldsmobile 01-24-2006, 09:54 PM headlight swicth is shorting out. its at the bootom of the turn signal lver mounted in the steering colmun. i got mine to stop shorting out by pulling back the rubber boot and spraying contact cleaner into the rivet holes of the contacts and than blowing through holes with a very fine tipped air nozzle. i usually have to do it once a year. for now it beats the cost of a new switch. good luck BigRedAurora 01-24-2006, 10:20 PM what exactly needs to be disassembled to get to switch ? BigRedAurora 01-25-2006, 12:52 PM i'm wondering if my problem could be the ignition switch rather then the head lamp switch..car acts exactly as if the the keys were left in the ignition.i also don't hear any of those clicking sounds from under the dash that others describe when the lamp control module or lamp switch go bad.anyone else have input on this issue..thanks boldsmobile 01-25-2006, 01:20 PM well i dont if its your ignition switch but you have similar syptoms as everyone else who has had a bad headlight switch. but maybe the fact you dont hear the solenoids clicking means you have other problems. i did not remove my switch to clean it, some have. look into your column at the base of the turn signal lever. the switch is in there. i may or may not have pulled off the column cover to get to the base of the switch. look in there and you will see the back side of the contacts and you will see holes. i sprayed cleaner in the holes and than blew them out. sounds like you havent looked yet so take a peak and i am sure it will be much clearer where it is. tjm 01-25-2006, 07:20 PM check the "Multifunction" links in this thread http://aurorah.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=1stgen&action=display&thread=1131809488 All the information you need to know to fix your problem and save $200 - $300 if all goes well. BigRedAurora 01-25-2006, 07:48 PM thanks for the replies..i've researched most all the postings covering the "multifunction switch" and there are some good ones.but most describe their problem as flickering lights and ticking sounds from under the dash.i guess my next question is could i have a bad MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH but not the typical symptoms as others have described..also if this problem was related to a bad IGNITION SWITCH would the car even start ? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
