Recently, I began smelling antifreeze in the cab of my 1998 expedition 4x4. The system is still warming both from the front and rear units. There does not seem to be any moistue inside the cab, but a drip has started that is visible on the ground on the passengers side. I have tried to pin it down, but there is no clear cause. It seems to move down the fire wall till it gets to the bottom and drips off of the frame. THe location of the moisture on the fire wall is above the starter and the exhaust. What appears to be dripping is clear rather than the green that I expected. Any help would be appreciated.....

I have a 98 exp. 4.6 engine, there is a common leak on the heater hoses right were they get clamp on before going into the fire wall, on my vel. its a tuff spot to get to.. Its possable the leak may be bad enought that its getting into the cab? Worse case your heater core may have a leak?? But being your a clear fluid, it seem like its condensation from the A/C.. Also I had my heater cord go bad on a Van I had & the anti frezz was under the carpet & I didn't know I had a leak till I smell it like you... Good luck...

Sounds like your heater coil is on its way out. The smell will become progressively worst. Finally with a fog coming from your vents and the smell getting stronger. Your Expy will start to run a little hotter and use possiibly began losing coolant.

If this is the case...the unit is located behind your dash and will need to be replaced. Labor intensive. A few days in the shop and a $1000+ for the repair.
