Hi, i'm in england, and i have a car familiar to the USA as pontiac lemans. Here its called Astra, parent company being General Motors, which i hope is the link to pontiac aswell. There is a picture of my car in my signature (not the blue subaru impreza obviously)

what engine specs were there in the lemans ? anyone got any pics ??

here engine specs were 1200cc ohv 4 cylinder single carb 45bhp, 1300 ohc 4 cylinder single carb 73bhp, 1600cc ohc 4 cylinder twin pot carb 82bhp, 1800 ohc GTE injection 4 cylinder 115bhp, 1998cc GTE injection 4 cylinder 130bhp, and the range topping 1998cc dohc 16v GTE 4 cylinder 156bhp.

the car i have is the last in that list and weighing only 1000kg is very quick (0-60 7.4 seconds, top speed 140mph)

thx

The LeMans used Holden-built 1.6L or GM do Brasil-built 2.0L four-cylinder engines. The 2.0L has nothing in common with the Vauxhall or Opel engines, but the smaller engine may have been derived from an Opel design.

I have owned a 90' Pontiac LeMans. Mine was equipped with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder SOHC. I believe from the markings in the castings on the cylinder head and block that the 1.6 was derived from Daewoo. I have seen the same engine in the Vauxhall and Opel equivelents. The 2.0 was an inferior American design. After selling it (stupid me) I still have very fond memories of the car which was much more reliable than my current Toyota Corolla. In all the 130,000 I put on the car, all she ever asked for was 2 clutches, oil changes, tires , and a new ECM. After I equipped a cold air intake made by a friend of mine and a few suspension upgrades to higher spring rate and tunable shocks she was a very competent road car.

The LeMans was produced by Daewoo, but the smaller engines were of Holden origin. They may have been produced exclusively for Daewoo and may have had Daewoo logos and markings, but, as far as I know, they were produced in Australia.

The 2.0L wasn't American, to my knowledge. It may have also come from an Opel design (like the smaller Holden-produced engines), but was produced in Brazil and could be found in the J2000/2000/Sunbird and atleast one other J-body (in both 1.8L and 2.0L SOHC forms). The 2.0L was a better performer.

Let me clear this whole mess up, there were 3 cars built on this platform Opel Kadett/Vauxhall Astra, Pontiac Le Mans and Daewoo Cielo/Nexia, all three of these cars were sold in New Zealand at different times.

The Le Mans and Kadett had the same engines, a 1.6 and 2.0, to my knowledge these engines were designed and built in Europe, I am not too sure, but I am think th 2.0 had previously been used in the Holden Camira

That 2.0L engine must be different than the one sold in the US.

My '88 Lemans was an Opel Kadett E, 1.6L. Whoever supplied the 2.0L engines for those also supplied the engines for the Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbirds-aside from the bigger block and a few mods like the water pump, etc. they were nearly identical.

The LeMans used engines sourced from two different places. The smaller engines were sourced from Holden. The 2.0L SOHC engine, which wasn't used in the Cavalier (the Chevrolet J-Car used an OHV engine) was the same as the one used in the Sunbird...in the J-car, the engine was sourced from GM do Brasil. They're all GM engines so they can source similar accessories.
