I have a 2001 Sienna XLE that I have just purchased a new remote for. I need programming instructions as well. Found some instructions for Camrys but they don't seem to work for Siennas. Any help appreciated.

I bought some remotes off of ebay for my 03 sienna, and they came with programming instructions. I figure I'll share them with y'all... The instructions are as follows:

1. Start with the following conditions:
a) Key is out of the ignition
b) Driver door is open (all other doors are closed)
c) Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)
2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a)Using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver's door (with the driver's door still open and unlocked), perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. A lock/unlock cycle consists of pressing the power lock switch, followed by pressing the power unlock switch on the driver's door panel. Use an even pace and try to go relatively fast.
b)Close, then open, the driver's door.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a) Using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver's door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock, as you did previously.
b) Turn the ignition to "ON" (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to "OFF".
c) Again, turn the ignition to "ON" (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to "OFF".
d) Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) automatically, indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a) Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter (the remote) simultaneously for 1 second.
b) Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, hit the lock button by itself and hold it for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) once indicating successful programming. If the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b, as this means the remote has not been accepted.
c) Repeat steps 6a and 6b for each transmitter that will operate the vehicle, including any old transmitters.
7. Close driver's door.

There ya go. Just a couple pointers.
First off, notice the bold in step 6 c). You have to repeat 6 a) and b) for EVERY remote, both your old ones that were already working, and your new one(s). And you have to do it before closing the driver's door in step 7.
Second, don't test your remotes until you've completed step 7. Then go ahead and test all of them. If you press one of the buttons on the remotes before having completed everything and closing the driver's door, the programming will not be successful.

I programmed my 2 new remotes, and then my old ones stopped working. Sure enough, I didn't read the instructions properly. I had to program those 2 and my old 2 all together. They all work perfectly now.

Spread these instructions around. I remember looking for them and not being able to find em anywhere.

Oh, and enjoy!

Does this instructions in previous message by big yellow monkey work for 1999 sienna? If not, does some have instructions for programming the keyless remote for a 1999 sienna that they can post? Thanks.

Should work for 99-03. The actual remotes for a 1998 sienna (first year of sienna I believe) are a different remote altogether, as are the remotes for the 2004 siennas. But for 1999-2003, they're all the same. These instructions should work perfectly.

Lemme know if you have any problems.

I have a 1999 Sienna XLE, and the above worked for me.

I had bought a FOB on ebay months ago for about $5,
and when I went into the local dealer and he asked for
$100 or more to program it, I said forget it and put it aside.

Well, I saw Biggie's message yesterday, and gave it a shot
this morning -- actually, three shots -- and it worked!

ADVICE FROM MY EXPERIENCE: BE CONFIDENT THAT A LOT
OF INFO IN THIS FORUM (ALL FOR ME SO FAR) IS ACCURATE.

I have a 2003 Sequoia (not Sienna), but I need to reprogram my two remotes. I tried this Sienna proceedure, but after the second set of 5 cycle on the locks, I did not get the automatic power lock cycle.

Anybody know what the procedure is for a 2003 Sequoia? It is the factory system.

I programmed my 2 new remotes, and then my old ones stopped working. Sure enough, I didn't read the instructions properly. I had to program those 2 and my old 2 all together. They all work perfectly now.

1. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out
2. perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock.
3. Close, then open, the driver's door.
4. perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock, as you did previously
5. Turn the ignition to "ON" (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to "OFF".
6. Again, turn the ignition to "ON" (as far as you can go without cranking your engine), then back to "OFF".
7. Remove the key from the ignition.
a)Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) automatically, indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.

Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
a) Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter (the remote) simultaneously for 1 second.

b)Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, hit the lock button by itself and hold it for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) once indicating successful programming. If the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice, repeat steps 7a,b, as this means the remote has not been accepted.
c) Repeat steps 7a and 7b for each transmitter that will operate the vehicle, including any EXTRA old transmitters. BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE DOOR!!!!!

Close driver's door.

I have a 2002 Sienna Symphony with (1) power sliding door (passenger side). Any solid method for this model w/ the one power slider? The remotes just quit suddenly. I replaced the battery in each unit with no success. Help!!!

I have a 2002 Toyota Sienna LE and the directions from "schwaboys" are the ONLY ones that worked. all of the others would not put my car into programming mode, and the directions from schwaboys worked first time!!! It was awesome, especially after diddling around with the others for a couple of hours.
