Service 4WD light - 00' Tahoemetolious69 01-18-2006, 09:08 AM My 'Service 4WD' indicator has been showing up on occasion for the past couple months. The light may come on during the drive home from work. Then I can go 3-4 days without seeing it. I took it to AutoZone to read the code, but they declined because it wasn't a 'Service Engine' fault. Can an OBD II check this type of fault? I have researched 4wd faults and they all seem to suggest replacing the 4wd switch. What do you guys recommend to remedy this? I'd rather not take it to a dealer and be charged $70 just to read the fault. 2000 Tahoe - 110,000 miles Thanks 777stickman 01-18-2006, 11:55 AM Most local repair shops have good scan tools that can get a DTC from your Tahoe. My local guys charge around $35 for the service. This is really the best way to get an idea what's happening with your 4WD system. Once you get the code, post back and we'll try to help you out..........Steve MT-2500 01-18-2006, 01:07 PM You may have a problem code or it may be telling it is time to service the fluid in the transfer case. Some use a new type of GM fluid that needs to be changed ever so many miles. There is 3 different transfer cases used in that vechicle. Get it to a good dealer or good repair shop and have them check it out. A good service and check out my savey 2 to 3 K dollars on it.
