White SE-R Spec-V

Earlier today (6/12/02) I went to my local raceway (LACR) and I ran my Spec V. My first time ever. I was so dissappointed in myself. I thought I was going to atleast hit a 15.8 or 16 flat, but when in fact I ran a 16.4 the first time and the second time I ran a 16.6. I really need to learn how to drive or something. If anyone has any comments please let me know. Just don't make fun of me. Also remember I am in Palmdale where I am 2400 ft above sea level. Might be a factor?

First of all how long have you had the car. I gotta be honest with you everytime someone does there first run it's always horrible. My friend who has a WRX and TypeR, it took them like 3-5 runs before they got the hang of it and started hittin 14.6 14.7, so don't get discouraged. Also when are you launching the car. I launch mine at around 2000rpms, but one thing I've noticed. One weekend I was racing, I didn't really just dump the clutch but I let off the clutch and gas you know what I mean. When I did that by the time I hit 2nd I was already in front of this SI, I ended beating him by like a car and a half. Anyway you'll do better trust me. It sounds like you just need more practice with you car. Good luck

Don't mind me kinda butting in here, but how much of a break-in period do these things have? Any chance that perhaps your performance lagged a bit b/c the parts are still in the process of getting broken-in? Just my meek $.02.....

Everyone talks about the break-in period on cars, has anyone read the little book the dealer gets on the subject?? My saleperson showed it to me, that is why i won't by a demo. Todays cars have self seating rings, jump in and floor it. The only reason I wouldn't suggest doing that is that the oil needs to get all around in that motor for awhile first. This little book tells exactly how the car should be driven for an example to the customer before letting them drive. The book tells them to floor ir and go fast around a few corners, get the rpms up before take off and a bunch of crazy crap. This is why we dont get to drive off the lot when we go to test drive, (usually). I need to get copies of those pages, I couldn't believe it myself. I think that the car can handle it just fine, but going easy for a few hundred miles wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Um, yeah... I'd say you're well past the "gentle" break-in period! My bad. :o

Haze: I know what you mean... I caught a glimpse of the books once before and it was interesting to say the least. The biggest reason why I'd take it easy on a brand-new car is to get all the parts good and lubed up before peaking performance.

Just color me another foolish girl who is talking before thinking, and with that I'll exit again. :p

I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT...... I have been trying to tell people for longest time that these cars are capable of running low, low 15's and even breaking the 14 barrier. In case none of you guys believe me, check the post, he has a time slip. I never took mine to the track yet, but every time I used my G-Tech the highest time I got was 15.1, the lowest was 15.02. I kept running 15.1's consecutively. I don't know how accurate they are but I am positive I know how to use it and it can't be that off. I can't wait to take mine to the track now.:alien:

Hey, Just got back from Atco Raceway in NJ, I ran a best time of 15.5 with an R/T of 1.7 sec. Yeah I know i f'd up. But this means that in the hands of a really good driver this car is definetly capable of times deep in the 14's

Hey man you're gonna have to help me out cause I'm new to all the track stuff. What does R/T of 1.7 sec means?

r/t is reaction time, it's basically ur reflex time to the light, i'm not sure about this but the r/t doesn't affect ur quarter mile right?

Actually it does affect your quatermile time as it is measured at a drastrip. Time starts when light turns green. If you sit there time is running for as long as you do. There are some tricks to cutting your R/T down like deep staging but this can be dangerous if you arent good at it (you are more prone to red light).

I see now, thanks. I learn something new everyday.:) I have yet to bring mine to the track. I know it's not gonna be anything spectacular because I have never ran on the Dragstrip. So I'm gonna have to get used to it.
