Hello,

My E39 528i steering wheel has started to shake when breaking. Sometimes it’s more apparent then others. The wheel will move from side to side in a fast jittery motion and then generally stops as speed slows.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or a solution.

I had to replace lower front control arms. I do not have the lift, so I went to a mechanic. Exactly the symptoms you describe. However, you can also have warped brake rotors. Check suspension first (rear as well). Another possible reason is dented wheel rims. But those would cause vibration without braking. Good luck.

I checked my suspension as you said and there no dents on my rims. I am leaning toward the other possibilities you had mentioned.

When you say you had to replace your lower front control arms. Are you referring to calipers? Also, what are warped brake rotors?
