rattling soundjon_norris 01-06-2006, 05:01 PM anybody know what that rattling sound i hear coming from my engine is? BleedDodge 01-07-2006, 06:57 PM Might be engine ping, a pulley, or a lifter. Who knows. Any relation to Chuck Norris? jon_norris 01-07-2006, 07:28 PM i think it might just the cold weather, i am in the mountains of north carolina. it kinda sounds like a hard rattling sound, if you know what i mean. Its got about 135K. Stevo2 01-15-2006, 05:35 AM What year and engine? Could be a sloppy timing chain. harrybastidge 02-01-2006, 07:42 AM I have a '95 Dakota with the magnum v-8 and it also has that rattle. At first I thought I had something come loose but after looking all over the engine, transmission, and frame, I did not find anything. After a while, I noticed it was alot noisier when I was driving around town when the engine was warm. I don't hear it as much after I have drove a considerable distance with few stops. Stop and go driving brings out mine quite a bit. I have had a couple people tell me it was the timing chain having a little slop in it which made it hit the timing chain cover. I'm OK with that. I have never wanted to stick anything onto a running engine to confirm it so I'm going to just accept it until my radio cannot drown it out any longer. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
