Hey,

'88 XJ Cherokee Laredo 4.0L Auto 4WD.

I recently did the closed to open cooling mod. The Thermostat was a 195 degree Mopar. I have my Dual Electric Fans set to kick in at a just a shade past 210 degrees. I could set them to turn on at a lower temp (lowest 180) but the fans would cycle on too much shortening their lifespan.

Would it be better for the engine to use a 180 degree Thermostat? I read that the engine will then run between 190-200 degrees. Is this true?

If good and ok, what about emissions will running cooler affect the emissions output in a good way or bad way. I still want to be able to pass an Emissions Test. lol

Thx, Phil:smile:

The 4.0 in your rig was made to run best at 195 to 200 degrees. If you put a 180 degree t-stat in it will not run any cooler, it will only open sooner and make it take more time to get to 195. This will cause it to run less efficiently than it should.
