89 camry exhaust pipe connection jimmywei 01-06-2006, 10:46 AM
I have an 89 Camry, it runs great except the middle exhaust pipe is broken ( about one foot pipe is missing at the front end). I cut a pipe from a junk car of my friends with flange on one end. I can connect the flange to my front exhaust pipe, the other end to my broken pipe. The problem is, these two pipe is different size( 1.9 in and 2.1 in), how can I connect them seamlessly. Can I borrow the tailpipe expander from autozone to expand the larger pipe, slip the small one in and then apply the U-bolt clamp to connect them? Is it tight enough, or I should apply some epoxy sealer around the connecting seam and wrap it with muffler bandage. I know welding might be the best choice, but that means I have to detach the exhaust pipe from my car and take it to the weld shop, a lot of work. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks. Toysrme 01-06-2006, 01:12 PM Epoxy won't work. Epoxy both cures, and un-cures with heat. It'll simply melt when you get on the engine good, and the pipe warms up. Go get it welded & quit playing around. augie7071 01-06-2006, 04:43 PM Hi I was able to go to the auto parts store & they let me look over all there pipes on hand. seems like i had the same trouble w/my 89 camry wagon. i found on by taking the pipe with me and a tape measure. found one that fit very well. doesn't hurt to ask anyway.
