How long Oxygen Sensors last?

I think my car should get a customized rear window decal that could read "Most Consecutive Electrical Problems in 2 month Period"! Does anyone know how long most O2 sensors should last? I changed mine less than 2 years ago (roughly 23,000 miles on the odo since then) and it's showing a code 13 again. I guess that the amount of miles that have been put on it since then would justify another replacement, but every other car I have owned has never had an O2 sensor go out that quickly. Sound right to anyone?

 that's already done fo rya, it says Buick.

I don't know why we're so prone to electircal issues, but, anyway. Is the O2 actually dirty or burnt when change it out?

Well my father's been driving my car, and he's the one who told me about the light coming on. He lives about an hour away but when I was there, I checked the code and got a 13, but I had to come back into town to look up what sensor/ circuit it was. I'm going to have to wait a few days before I can check the sensor. I'm hoping that the guy who looked at the car last to replace the engine control computer might've disconnected the O2 for some reason and forgot to reconnect it..I just find it odd that the code comes up less than a week after getting the car back from him! I'll post back when I find out whats up.

Most service technical manuals recommend replacement of the O2 sensor at 60K intervals. As far as I know, the one in my Ultra is original @175K. Still gets around 20mpg around town and has never had a code. Of course, I run Lucas fuel injector cleaner and Heet through it on a regular basis!

Did you install an AC or Bosch O2 sensor? If it was Bosch or other aftermarket brand, that could be your problem.

I replaced it with an AC, I've always kept away from aftermarket. I'm almost certain the one I replaced was the original also, but apparently it was still good because I never got any codes from it.

Yea, where I come from, we have a saying, "if it isn’t broke, don't try to fix it"!

By the way, how are things going down in Beeville? I lived in SA (Windcrest) from 88-97. The Z28 shown in the Avatar was bought new there.

I also have an 87 Camaro (now in storage), that was a regular participant at the Saturday night S.W. Military street races. Those 11 sec. Mustangs are still wondering what happened to the ole “Blue IROC”, that spanked so many of them back then!!
:iceslolan

Supposedly, my son was going out to eat with some friends, but later I heard from some spectators, they saw my IROC street racing, on the prior Saturday night! I always wondered why my son was changing those “big blue bottles” in the trunk every Saturday afternoon! (I’m not really that naive)
:sunglasse

Almost forgot; my son does not drive my cars anymore since he has his own. Ocasionally, he comes by with some problem on his car looking for advice.I tell him that I need to take it for a test drive first, to check it out. Who says, that old men drive too slow?

I'm from Corpus, but Beeville's not a bad little town. I don't know about SA but down here we have the typical weather change overnight...something south Texans are used to! I've always said if I moved out of town, it'd be to San Antonio. It's not far from family, the weather is not nearly as humid, Jobs are much easier to find, and obviously there's tons more to do there. Did you like it there?
For being such a small town, there's quite a few dedicated restorers down here! A big plus for this town is having a whopping 3 auto parts places (not counting junk yards) That doesn't sound like much, but for a town that can be driven through in about 5 minutes, it's not bad!
That's a nice burnout you did, you should record another one and post it up!

Finally got back into town to see what the problem was with the O2 sensor, It turned out that one of the back plug wires was touching the O2 wire, causing magnetic interference with the sensor. The sensor's still good! :D
