I have an automatic 2001 Toyota echo with a blown head gasket, that my mother basically threw at me and told me to make work. I'm pretty unfamiliar with this car, as I'm used to working on my 91 accord and 87 toyota pickup.

The car was not taken well care of, and I can only imagine what other problems are lurking for me to discover when I take the head off, and I'm considering that the problem might be taken care of faster if i can simply take the blown engine out and install another one.

But I can't seem to locate anything. What kind of engines do these cars use? Where can I buy a used one? Do they still manufacture it, can I buy a new one? If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd much appreciate it.
