I drive a 97 thunderbird 4,6 v8.Last week i'd tried to replace my brake pads. The front was no problem, there i could push back the brake cylinder verry easily. But the rear brake cylinders will not be pushed back, both sides. Is there a special tool needed?or are they damaged.
anybody knows how to help a dutch thunderbird driver?

try a large C clamp. place one side on the back side of the caliper and the other on the edge of the piston itself. It will probably take some effort but it should go back into the caliper

This only works for the front calipers! The piston in the rear caliper must be screwed back into the caliper by rotating it in a clockwise direction. You can probably get the tool for this at Autozone. You pay a deposit and then get it back when you return the tool.

The tool is pretty inexpensive, worth picking one up even if you only occasionally work on brakes. They make a universal one that is shaped like a cube with 3/8" drive squares and prongs sticking out the sides. Just find the side that fits best and screw away.

Thanx for the tip, it worked.Changed the brake pads today.Only without the special tool, i've made one myself because here in holland, europe we don't have an autozone shop and it's a bit expensive to get one over seas.
