Keyless remote

I own a 1999 Grand Prix GTP. I purchased it used and it came without a keyless remote. It does seem to be load with all the options offered when new. I would like to purchase a remote on Ebay, but don't know how to select the correct model? Can anyone give me some advice? After talking to GM they told me the number on the back of the remote transmitter that you buy has to match the one designed for your receiver module. The GM/LEAR number they gave me for my 99 (which is probably the same number you would need) is 10246215. Yes, that is odd. It seems to have almost everything else. Is it a big deal to have one installed? If practical, what would you suggest?
