I have a 97 Ram 1500 Sport, 5.9L, 2WD automatic trans with 85k miles on it. I just recently got two noises. First one happens when I am parked and put the truck in reverse. It is not a squeak, but almost like a rubbing noise. It goes away almost immediately, maybe after two seconds, but it drives me crazy. It occassionally does it in drive as well. I have no troubles shifting, trans fluid is clean and full, truck drives great. But the noise doesn't sound right.

Also, I have picked up a noise from under/back in the truck when I turn my wheel to either side in the parked or slow moving position. The noise sounds like something is under strain or rubbing (again, but differen than the first noise). I know that sounds weird, I can't figure out how steering can affect a noise in the back of the truck. But I have gotten out to make sure that is where it is coming from, and sure enough.

I hope I am not developing trans or power steering problems. Anyone out there that can help? Do you need more info?

There is a TSB from Chrysler regardgin the "buzzing" noise in reverse. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it's a control module, or body in the trans. itself. Not a real problem, just an annoying noise. Mine did it for the (3) years that I owned it. The rear end noise could be the springs, or the differential if you have the "anti-spin" rear end. My 4x4 made a lot of noises from the springs. I also had one of the links to the rear sway bar break one time, that made a lot of noises until I got it repaired.

Good luck, Gary.
