i have a massive oil leak on the passenger side of the engine block
so far ive heard it could be a number of things (valve cover gasket, head gasket, cam shaft seal, oil main seal, oil pressure sending unit)
i just replace the head gasket when i replace the head and yes the head was square and i did replace the head bolts. i also replace the valve cover gasket at this time.

the oil puddle was the size of a basketball or bigger
i had to put 3 quarts in to get it back to full

could this be caused by the oil pressure sending unit even though the drip is comming from the passenger side not the driver side were the oil pressure sending unit is.

the leak seems to me originating from somewere above the oil filter but i cant seem to trace it.

any ideas on were the leak might be comming from?
or if any of the previous suggestions might be right??

thanks for the help

Not sure if this will help.

I recently replaced the oil pan on my Neon ('97 DOHC) and of course did a oil change at that time.

When I started up the car oil was pooring out of the oil pressure switch, quick enough that a 6" puddle formed within a few moments and the check engine light was on.

I replaced the switch but no better. After much frustration and grasping for a solution, I put the old oil filter back on. It stopped almost immediately.

The best I could figure is the filter was not working properly and was building back pressure.
