Hi Everyone;

My front pasenger side power window just started to act up. Yesterday after opening it approx half way, it wouldn't go up again but would still go down more. Pulling up on the window while pushing the up button, it finally went up on its own power.

But today, someone opened it halfway again, but now it wont go back up at all. I tried pulling up on the window as before, but nothing works. I suspected that the switch might be defective except for the fact that pushing the up button on the drivers side wont make the window go up either but will make it go down just like the switch on the other side.

Anyone have any ideas where to look for the problem. I hate to take it in to the dealer before I try to repair it myself to save $$$$$$.

My 98 Caravan just started doing this same thing last week. I finally fixed another electrical glitch (instrument gauges intermittently off a day or 2, then on a day or 2) after spending a bundle at the Dodge dealership and my local (trusted) garage. A garage just doesn't have the luxury of time (or patience I think) to troubleshoot like you do if you have any rudimentary mechanical skills at all and some tenacity. I come to this website first whenever I encounter a problem. We can learn so much from each other even if we don't hit the nail right on the head its the accumulated trial and error that is important. I read in a couple of other posts on this subject that when the switch housing was taken out of the door it was a solid piece. True, it is. But I noticed the circuit board could be popped out carefully and so I did. There are eight tiny pens (rocker pistons) in there so if you go this route be careful and do it over a towel or table so you don't lose any. They go back in very easily when you reassemble the box. I then took my trusty can of compressed air, a fine bristle paint brush and cleaned all the exposed switching arms. Then I used a can of electrical "Contact/Control Cleaner and Lubricant" that you can get any Radio Shack. After cleaning, I lightly sprayed some of this stuff on all four contacts. It doesn't take much. I then reassembled the control box and put it back in the door. After a couple of stop and go cycles the lubricant spread around and it worked flawlessly about 2 dozen times... up and down... up and down. My victory lap so to speak. I hope this works for you if you decide to try it. It's a helluva lot cheaper that motors, relays or entire switch housings. Good Luck. CW4Rick
