remote programming

I saw a thread on this earlier, but it provided no real information short of going to a Jag dealer. I am the brand new proud owner of a 2002 XJ8 sedan. It came with a remote and 2 keys (one of which is a valet key). The remote which came with the car does not work. I changed the batteries and it still does not work. I got a new one when I got the car and it needs programming. I would love to get the remotes working and a new (regular) key. Can someone provide information on how to program the remotes and what needs to be done to the keys? I have read that the keys have a chip which needs programming. Are all keys the same except for the chip? I would call a dealer here, but this is New Mexico and I am well aware of the general competence of all high performance car dealerships. If anyone could give me some guidance or point me in the general direction of a good website, I would be greatly appreciative.

After much research, I finally found a site that states that remotes for this year (and probably newer) MUST be dealer programmed. So for the record. Earlier remotes might be self-programmed, but 2002's cannot.

try this.....

Turn the ignition on and off 4 times quickly.
You will hear a tone.
Remove the key and press a button on both of your remotes.
You will hear a tone after each one pressed.
Turn the ignition on and off.
Both remotes will be re progged.
