Power Steering Whining

I just replaced the power steering pump on my G1500 5.7L van. What a job...saved myself $500 vs paying a mechjanic to do it.

Anyhow, upon startup it is whining. I think there is air in the lines which is causing the problem. I read that I can put a vacuum on the external reservoir and turn the wheels side to side for 5 minutes. I don't have a vacuum..can probably get one.

Can someone tell me if this whining is the result of air in the lines?
Is there any way to bleed the air from the lines without using a vacuum?
Does it hurt to drive the car while it is whining to a shop that can bleed it for me?

easiest way to tell is to look at the PS fluid. Is it frothy or does it have a lot of bubbles in it after you run it for a while? If so, you do.
