Just bought a new 06 LT3 Z71 Crewrealralfy 12-28-2005, 06:28 PM There are some deals to be had. My dealer went $873 below invoice and charged no DOC fee. GM's "Red Tag Price" is exactly $100 above supplier cost or just at about invoice price. I went to several dealers and nobody wanted to go below Red Tag. A few offered no DOC. With the $873 below invoice I got all of his holdback except for $200. The dealer gave me $1000 in other rebates. He said they were $250 rebates or vouchers that GM gave certain dealers. The dealers in turn could use them to make deals. He said he could use up to 4 on one deal. A couple of some other big dealers told me the same thing.... I also got a $1000 private offer from Chevy (I simply called Chevrolet marketing support and they had an offer out there for me that was physically mailed to the address I lived at in 1996 when I bought a new Silverado) I would have never known it was there if I had not called about it because I have not lived there since 1997. To redeem it all I had to do was give them my old address and the dealer was able to give me the rebate. The truck had a $3500 national rebate Also, I had $3000 in GM Card money for a total of $8500 in rebates. The truck had a MSRP of $39,985 Red Tag Price of $32,450 I got it for $26,500 plus state tax, no DOC fees!!! Not bad!! I used the Federal Tax ID number of our family business. The sales manager was able to then offer me either a $1000 upfit reimbursement or a $500 Lowes card. I opted for the Lowes card because I don't need tool boxes and ladder racks. I tried to get them to go for the color matched A.R.E. Z-Series cap but Chevy would not go for that. This truck ended up being cheaper than the new F-150 I bought in 1999....weird huh??? I have owned 3 Chevrolets in the past and they have always done me well. I'll also say that the F-150 gave me 175,000 trouble free miles as well but I couldn't pass up this deal on the Chevy. By the way, that dang OnStar is the biggest waste of money ever. Who in the hell would pay $16.95/month in case they lock their keys in their car. It ticks me off that I had to pay extra for the option on the truck. I'm also disappointed in the XM service. 100 channels of music and nothing on. The Bose factory radio is awesome by the way. It sounds better than the system in my father-in-law's BMW 645i convertible that had a $90K price tag. The 10-way power seats are the best of any manufacturer, bar none. The fact they they are heated gives my wife one less thing to complain about. I also love the fact that the Vortec engines get the best MPG on the market. It seems that most like the looks of the Titan or the new F-150 but to me the best looking truck on the market is the Silverado. The new front end is just awesome!!! I was thinking of holding off until the 2007's come out with the Displacement-on-Demand Vortec engines and the new 6 speed auto trannies. Chevy will once again be HP King with a V8 that has over 400hp!!! It will also get the best MPG on the market by a long shot. However, I think I will wait and see how this new DOD holds up and how the 6 speed tranny performs. I guess I'll trade my 2006 in for a new 2009. bobboinge 12-30-2005, 07:39 AM You work for GM don't you? bobboinge 12-30-2005, 07:40 AM You work for GM, don't you? fake_usa 12-30-2005, 11:05 AM yo, man how did you find out about all those discounts !!! That's great !! I need to do that when I get my new truck,, Soon !! :) realralfy 12-30-2005, 12:31 PM yo, man how did you find out about all those discounts !!! That's great !! I need to do that when I get my new truck,, Soon !! :) It just took a bit of time doing research for what "private offer rebates" I was eligible to receive. Call Chevrolet 1-800-222-1020....ask them for their marketing support department. They finally found the $1000 that was mailed to an address I lived at in 1996. Give them every address you have lived at in the past. They can find it with your last name and zip codes you have lived in. Call and visit several dealers. Don't be tempted to buy the first shiny new truck you like. The Red Tag thing expires 1/3/2006....there are dealers out there that are willing to go well below red tag price by giving up most of their holdback. They still have other profits by virtue of advertising money they are alloted on every vehicle by their region and by GM corporate. In the case of my truck that added up to about $600. My dealer kept $200 of the $1073 holdback and the he profited by getting the $600 advertising money. He made about $800 on the truck even though he gave up most of the holdback. The dealer is also bonused by how many vehicles he moves during the calendar month. I have found that the bigger dealers are more capable of going into holdback because they are willing to rely more on bonus money resulting from units sold in a given month. The larger dealers also have these "dealer coupons" because GM gave them the coupons because of past sales achievements. I found the smaller dealers didn't have these coupons and they had to keep their holdback because their bonuses were low. The dealer I bought my truck from is the biggest dealer in East TN, SW VA, and W. NC.... Another bit of advise is for you to be in total charge of the negotiating process. Don't get caught up in one of those little sales offices and start going back and forth. You know where the poor salesman goes off and comes back with an offer from the sales manager. They want the process to go back and forth and hopefully you get frustrated and believe the company line of "we are only making $100 on the truck at red tag price, and they still want you to pay the doc. The remedy to this is to go right up to the sales manager's desk (which is always strangly elevated above the sales floor) and deal directly with the sales manager. I usually start this process by first calling the dealer and ask for the sales manager. Be curt but courteous and ask him for his holdback and for some of those $250 rebates. Ask about not paying the doc fee. I got my truck $6237 below red tag price by virtue of my GM card savings ($3000), $1000 private offer by calling Chevy, $1000 GM dealer coupons, $873 dealer discount below red tag, and $400 by avoiding the DOC fee. Also I provided the Federal Tax ID Number of my father's business and it got me another $500 gift card from Lowes. I provided no proof, I just recited the number. I almost think you could make up the number. It will look something like this....6211XXXXX.....(insert your own numbers where the X's are) I could have opted for a $1000 truck upfit reimbursment but I didn't need toolboxes or ladder racks. They didn't consider the color-matched A.R.E. cap I want as a "commercial upfit".....damnit!! Also, interest rates are on the rise. My beacon score was really good but the best APR the dealer could offer was 5.1% on 60 mo. Most of the credit unions were similar. However, I found 2 credit unions near my home that had rates below 4% on 60 mo. One was 3.9% and the other was 3.4%. Obviously I chose the 3.4%. When I joined the credit union I was told their rates were going to 5.9% on Jan 1. That is a big difference about $40/month in my case. I'm glad I bought when I did because I'm locked in at 3.4% for 60 mo. Those low rates are already hard to find. It looks as if they will be even harder to find after the new year. To find the credit unions, I googled "Tennessee Credit Unions"....the results provided a page that had links of all credit unions in Tennessee. You can then surf specific credit union web sites and shop for rates. The thing about credit unions is that you will not be eligible to join all of them. However, they want your business and are willing to "bend" the rules to get you in. The credit union I joined had eligibility for goverment emplyees to join so I convinced that my wife was a government employee even though she is in reality a 4th year medical student. We pay the state, the state doesn't pay us. They took it and asked no further questions.... If I were full-time military I could have avoided the damn sales tax. That would have really been a great deal!!! In Tennessee we have no income tax, property taxes are low, car registration is only $24/yr and no property tax on vehicles to pay every year, but they stick it to us on the sales tax when we purchase a car, 7% + $80....And that tax is paid on the amount prior to the application of the rebates. I paid 7% tax on $35,000...that came out to over $2500 in sales tax...ouch!!! That pisses me off as I type it.... Good luck in getting your new Silverado.... By the way, the Red Tag deal is better than the employee pricing thing that went on during the summer and fall.....Employee pricing was good but the rebates are much higher now than they were then!!! fake_usa 12-30-2005, 01:34 PM Wow thanks for the Help !! So you're saying the red tag deal is basicly just invoice price? So if I were to get a truck for below invoice price that would be better then the reg tag price, right?? I'm getting presured to lock in before tuesday but I didn't do enough research to know exactly what I want yet so I didn't want to lock in.... but I hate to miss the red tag sale if it is really going to be the best deal.... realralfy 12-30-2005, 01:59 PM Wow thanks for the Help !! I'm getting presured to lock in before tuesday but I didn't do enough research to know exactly what I want yet so I didn't want to lock in.... but I hate to miss the red tag sale if it is really going to be the best deal.... Who knows what GM will have out next. I don't have a invoice in front of me but Red Tag price is exactly $100 above "Supplier Price" which can be found on the right hand side of the invoice minus the $3500 national rebate. From memory Red Tag Price is pretty close to invoice price less the national rebate, maybe slightly below.... If I didn't know exacly wat I wanted I would wait. As long as gas is still high there will be huge discounts on these trucks in my opinion. GM, Ford, and Dodge are all saying that they are going to cut off these big rebate programs but they will also have to maintain market share. They are trying to go toward the Import model of pricing. Lower MSPR's with a smaller difference between MSRP and invoice and smaller rebates. You can see this starting to happen because the 2006 Silverado's sticker lower than the 2005's. The thing is that America has grown used to the big rebates. Also, Nissan and even Toyota are offering rebates over $3000 as well. It is a buyer's market now. I worked the deal on a Denali my dad bought in the Summer of 2003. The dealer agreed to let me work the deal on the last day of the current promotion. He said that is the rebate increased the next day he would adjust the paperwork and let me have the better of the two deals. See if a dealer will let you go for that.... fake_usa 12-31-2005, 01:35 PM Thank you for your help !! skipr 01-03-2006, 04:18 PM So basically you got a great deal by telling a series of lies. That may work for you, but some of us aren't willing to lie our ass off to get rebates. I noticed you are pissed about the sales tax, you should have thought up another lie to get out of paying taxes. sledneck781 01-03-2006, 10:25 PM I think its genious what he did, stick it to the man. If they can do it.... they can do it! He did nothing wrong by trying to better himself, at least in my eyes. realralfy 01-04-2006, 12:03 AM So basically you got a great deal by telling a series of lies. That may work for you, but some of us aren't willing to lie our ass off to get rebates. I noticed you are pissed about the sales tax, you should have thought up another lie to get out of paying taxes. I'm not sure what "lie" you are talking about. I was fully qualified for every single cent of every rebate I received. Lets see.... $3500 National rebate..everybody qualifies $1000 Private Offer...Chevy offered that to me beforehand, I just had to call and find it. $1000 Additional rebate by virtue of the DEALER offering to me in order to entice me into making the deal. That is how deals are made! $3000 GM Card money....That was the max allowable for a 06 Silverado. I used the card for the past several years acumulating the money FOR THIS SPECIFIC PURPOSE!!!. $500 Lowes gift card...I was eligible because my family owns a business. There was no deception whatsoever... The only thing I did was to perform dilligent research to find out everything I was eleigible for. I told NOT ONE LIE in order to get any of the rebates, period! I was just sharing my findings with the board in case anybody else was in the market for a new Silverado. I take exception for you calling me a liar however if you are man enough to offer an apology I will accept. fake_usa 01-04-2006, 11:35 AM I think its genious what he did, stick it to the man. Someone just sounds a little jealous to me... skipr 01-05-2006, 02:26 AM Ok, fair enough. I am sorry for mis understanding your post. I read government employee, but a student Plus loan in reality. I see the use of a federal tax Id # which does not even belong to you. I just wouldn't put that much work into cutting the salesman, fleetmanager..whatever out of there commission. They need to make a living too.And from what I experienced frm buying several GM trucks over the years, the basic offers are very good. That lowes gift card rebate is reserverd for business owners who are purchasing for there Business. And as for being jealous. That is not even close to my motive here. There's only 1 man in the world I am jealous of. My friend who is a F-15e pilot. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
