Immobilisers again..

Obviously the world does not think much of Reanult Laguna Immobilisers - and nor do I.

I have a W Reg (2000) Renault Laguna 1.6 Alize

For some time, it has been a bit iffy when starting. The engine would always turn over (but sometimes wouldn't fire). Third or fourth attempt would always work.

Last week - the day before Xmas Eve in fact - my luck was out. Engine turning over but not firing. The very nice AA man checked it through and said there was no power at the ignition coils and that he thought it was probably a problem with the immobiliser. He disconnected the battery, left it a while and then, having reconnected the battery, hey presto it started. (He said he'd 'reset' the immobiliser). When I got back home the engine could be switched off and on fine. But the next morning it was back to square one: engine turning over, but no starting.

So I decided to copy what he'd done and disconnect the battery - but couldn't get any joy. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong? Or suggestions?

Is there some way to by pass the immobiliser?

Or is the only way to take it to the Renault people and pay a hefty price?

Many thanks for any help,

Sean
