Transmission Troubles

1998 Grand Caravan. 166,000 miles. 3.0L I had to have my entire transmission rebuilt around 138,000 miles. Since then it has been nothing but small problems. For the last 10,000 miles its been really hesitant to shift, especially out of 2nd gear. Sometimes are better than others and you can inititate shifting by releasing the accelerator. Just recently, I took a longer trip and when cruising at 70-75 it would slip to the point where everyone in the van would feel the sudden loss of power. It would catch itself again, almost as if youd think it was an engine misfire, except you could feel it slip and "clunk" as it re-engaged again. When it happened it would happen repeatdly. After the trip it did it occasionally at lower speeds (35 mph) when it went to out of 2nd gear. For the shifting is there some kind of sensor that could be bad that could be confusing the system? Or does it sound like this is a mechanical issue where some link isnt right? (when you move back to the accel. after coasting it really hits hard ( almost slips and then engages)) I have repeatedly check the transmission fluid and it is normal color and level. Thanks

This sounds more like a mechanical issue than anything else especially if you can feel it slipping. Take to a garage or tranny shop to have it diagnosed with a trans capable scanner. It is possible that it is a bad solenoid but the only way to find out is to scan it.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get it back to the place that attempted to fix it in the first place.
