I have read the posts about upgrading the overhead console with great interest; lots of great info here. I also have the shorty console in my 2003 LS and it currently has buttons for power vent windows, interior lights override, power door and door override, etc. Is it possible to also install OnStar and homelink with the upgraded console and get them working? Is adding XM radio also possible and can you advise what would be involved in a do-it-yourself factory style installation? Is it more than the console and satellite antenna? I might have the XM compatible radio; it's AM/FM-Cassette-CD with info display.

Thanks, Greg

OnStar needs quite a few things to work, like GPS Antenna, Cell Antenna, and all the "Electronics" to make it work.

If all this stuff is not factory installed, I think it could be a lot of work (and $$) to get it done.

HomeLink is another story. I believe this is a "standalone" product. Basically a programmable garage door opener and remote controller.

I'm not sure about the XM thing, but a shop that sells & installs them could probably tell you what's involved there.

Adding satelite radio to your van shouldn't be a big problem or expense. I've seen a commercial for, I think it was XM radio earlier this year that shows a guy listening to a satelite radio hooked up in his car while going to work. He then drives into his building, gets on the elevator in his car, then proceeds to park next to his desk. When he gets out of his car, he removes the receiver and then puts it in a boombox type radio and continues to listen at his desk. That shows how portable they are, adding to their popularity, so I would think the part that adapts the receiver to your car radio/ speaker system shouldn't cost a lot of money. Do a little research into the 2 providers, XM and Sirius, and see who offers the best components at the best price for you. Like GregA said in his post, talk to a store that sells them,or a shop that installs them to get a better idea.
