bad clutch??the_game_rock 12-24-2005, 12:02 AM How do you tell if your clutch is going bad? I burnt it pretty bad the other night and you can still smell it sometimes how can you tell how much life it has? Turbodog97 12-25-2005, 10:54 PM Well, your first sign that the clutch is going out is the smell. Next, it will be somewhat hard to engage into gears(also a soft pedal) and eventually you won't be able to engage at all. With not to0 hard or extensive driving, I would say 2-3 weeks(at the most). Try taking it easier next time...I would recommend an Exedy Organic clutch. TEXSRT4 12-25-2005, 11:36 PM you will also find that the seems to be less power while driving. you will gun it and the car wont go anywhere, plus your rpms will increase like you were accelarating. Turbodog97 12-26-2005, 08:39 AM It's not going to be cheap for a new clutch job either :2cents: Unless you know how to do it yourself... das2123 12-27-2005, 03:32 PM It's not going to be cheap for a new clutch job either :2cents: Unless you know how to do it yourself...Changing the clutch on a neon is pretty simple and can be done by a novice mechanic. the_game_rock 01-06-2006, 11:11 PM Changing the clutch on a neon is pretty simple and can be done by a novice mechanic. I get it in gear ok except sometimes 3rd dont slide right in. Im guessings its about to go out on me when you barley push down the clutch it kicks out of gear. das how long would it take to replace a clutch and what all tools would I need? I cant spend too much maybe around $275 das2123 01-07-2006, 10:47 AM das how long would it take to replace a clutch and what all tools would I need? I have a hanes book also. I cant spend too much maybe around $275With all the right tools, you can do it in a few hours. If you really take your time, you can make a day out of it. I don't think you need any special tools just alot of them. I would go with the PT clutch and get a new throwout bearing while you are at it. The latest part number of the pt clutch is 4668555-AH and for the throwout bearing it's 4670026-AB. You can get both from Fenton Dodge for around $260 shipped maybe if there prices haven't gone up. Here is a link to their website, give them a call... http://neons.org/forumdodge/ I would also replace the rear main seal while you are at it. It is cheap insurance and costs about $15 for the TEFLON version from FEL-PRO. the_game_rock 01-07-2006, 08:03 PM With all the right tools, you can do it in a few hours. I'd do some research first before I bought either one. I know the PT clutch is a great replacement for the neon however and does not have any fitment problems. I just can't say the same about the other ones you are looking at. the_game_rock 01-08-2006, 06:12 AM I don't know much about Sachs clutches on a neon or the other brand. TEXSRT4 01-08-2006, 05:41 PM pt clutches are better than stock neon clutches. and sachs makes the factory srt clutches, so then do make a decent product das2123 01-08-2006, 07:59 PM I couldnt find the pt clutch on the site you sent. Is it better than stock?Much better than stock neon clutches. Call them for a price, I know it wasn't listed, thats why I mentioned to give them a call. the_game_rock 01-08-2006, 08:34 PM why do you need to get a different clutch to get a aftermarket flywheel? im getting a fidanza flywheel is there a specfic clutch I would need to get? does anybody know anything about centerforce clutchs? the_game_rock 01-08-2006, 08:47 PM http://www.howellautomotive.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=818 is this clutch any good? is bruteforce any good? das2123 01-08-2006, 10:49 PM why do you need to get a different clutch to get a aftermarket flywheel? Some aftermarket clutches are desinged to work with stock or an aluminum flywheel. So it would depend on which clutch you are going with. im getting a fidanza flywheel is there a specfic clutch I would need to get? does anybody know anything about centerforce clutchs?IF you go with Fidanza flywheel then you need to have a 95 style non-modular only, I think. Centerforce clutches are great for mildly modified and or stock neons. If you are boosted or have alot of mods then you may want to go with clutchmasters. the_game_rock 01-10-2006, 03:22 PM Some aftermarket clutches are desinged to work with stock or an aluminum flywheel. I read that aftermarket clutchs and have as long as life as stock ones. My neon is pretty much stock except header and intake but I might want to put on a turbo kit later. How long do aftermarket clutchs last?? das2123 01-10-2006, 05:17 PM How long do aftermarket clutches last??That is driver dependent. The driver has alot to do with clutches going out. I don't know how long aftermarket clutches in general last for sure, but I would guess anywhere between 10-15 years, maybe more. I know people with 95 neons still on the stock clutch :p vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
