I have a 1994 PA that dies out and needs to be jumped every two days. I replaced the alternator 3 times, with a reman, and the battery was bought from Autozone. When the car starts the battery charges a lil high. When I press buttons on the climate control the battery dial goes down then rasies back up. The car runs rough. it idles kinda high. while waiting at a light the car jolts lightly and the battery dial does the same thing, it loses power then goes back. Not sure if this is an electrical problem or something as simple as my battery or alternator. also if someone has any resources in terms of parts please let me know...

quite obviously something is not right in your charging system, like something is loose, the incorrect item, or was bought defective.

Did you check the battery to make sure it was FULLY charged when istalled? If not it may have been low and you inadvertantly fried a brand new alternator, which is what I'm strongly leaning at here. Also the belt was replaced as well right?

In addition to wrightz28 suggestions, this is the season for additional amperage required to start the cars. That means that the battery cables need to be in tip-top condition. They may look clean on first inspection; however, the corrosion can be under the red insulators on the cables and even drift down into the cable itself. Pull the cables off and separate the two positive cables and use a brass brush to clean both sides with a mixture of baking soda & water (50-50 mix). If you see a foaming green substance coming out of the cable insulator, keep cleaning them until the foaming stops. The green foam indicates the soda water is neutralizing the acid on the cables. After you have the cables perfectly clean, dry them off and apply a good coating of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on all the contact surfaces before reassembly.
The piggyback positive cable design was flawed from the get go and unfortunately we have to play with the cards that we are dealt.
:uhoh:

After everything is clean and reassembled, take it to AutoZone for a battery and alternator test. :iceslolan

Yes i changed the belt. I just installed the battery after purchasing it. would it be smart to purchase the items again getting an ac delco alternator with better amperage and a better battery. i was reading another thread that suggested a 935 cca battery i believe. Also where are you located, do you recommend a good mechanic. I would like to save this car, i bought it for $200 and it only has 113K on it, tranny shifts smooth.

935 CCA is way too much (yes there is such a thing as too much battery). if you just changed the battery and alternator at autozone, they are under warrenty, especially the battery. So you should be able to exchange virtually no questions asked.

You need to make sure the battery is charged before putting it in the car. Doesn't mean a thing that you just bought it, it needs to have a full charge (which should have been done by them anyway). If a battery is low being installed the alternator is working full time to charge right away and a alternator is intended to only keep charge on a battery, not to charge it flat out.

All other things aside, make sure all you battery connections are snug and alternator mount bolts are prorerly tightened as that's the alternators ground.

I have the same problem with my 92 PA. I'n the late stages of the summer I went out to put on my AC which worked OK. The car got cool and I turned off the key only to find that the fan still stayed on. I tried multiple times to get it off by restarting and the such. Pulled out the fuse for the fan ---IT STILL IS RUNNING-then pulled every fuse--STILL RUNNING--had to diconnect the battery. The climate control works just the way it should lights and all except the outdoor degree does blink for about 5 min then stops on its own. The battery went dead a few times ( done on purpose). Now the fan would just stay on low and drain the battery but after a few dead bats now it no longer ran on low. Problem fixed !!! NOT !! I have to disconnect the plug feeding the fan under the hood every night so I don't go dead then put it back on in the morn to get heat. I've read that the climate controls on these cars do have problems since I owned a 91 and that 1 acted up also. Question is --the car is feeding probably at least 12 volts to the fan since a charged battery will die in 8 hours or less. IS the blower motor responsible for this and needs replacement ? This car has 225K on it and runs like a dream except for the electrical problems that show up evry now and then. If ya own 1 ya know what I'm talking about. Thanks to anyone who can help or has a clue and have a Very Merry Christmas & Holiday. ---Chris

Chris,
The link below from the LeSabre forum, will help you with the fan & speed controls. (Same system as PA)
