I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan sxt that only has 7600 miles on it. It has been to the dealership for transmission problems since about 3-4K miles. It has a problem downshifting and upshifting when coming to a complete stop. It doesnt happen all the time but enough so I am afraid to drive it. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem, when you stop it feels like you are getting bumped in the rearend and when you take off it has a hard time shifting into first gear, it hesitates. They have adjusted the computer, it worked for a bit then happened again, put in new fan I believe worked for a bit then started again, now when I have brought it in several times since then, they cant find anything wrong, but my husband has also driven it and it has happened to him as well so he knows I am not nuts. :screwy:

these vehicles have electronic transmissions and the computor constantly monitors driver habits and adjusts shift paterns accordingly if you do alot of stop and go then get onto highway for a short distance then stop and go again the trans controller does have a tendancy to behave roughly after a while so when you visit the dealer they just perform a quick learn procedure with the scan tool that is why it shifts good after for a while

it sounds like a speed sensor problem. if the dealership can figure it out, any dodge dealer will work on it especially since its under warranty. they cant refuse you, you bought it new and have a warranty with daimler/chrysler which they are working for. anyway, that is pretty telltale of a speed sensor, input or output. its not something i would recommend you do on your own, its a crazy deal to get it out. like a 1 1/4 socket with some stepdowns to a 1/4dr ratchet. anyway take it in and tell em it bumps when it downshifts and stuff. also the electronic valvebodies on those things have a plastic housing which warps REALLY easily so i can only imagine that the inside isnt much better. ive replaced a zillion of those things.
